Default Why does my oil pressure drop when I accelerate?

Ok guys... so I have a problem.... I will list them.

1.) When I got my h/c installed, I also did a ported oil pump. I was concerned because my oil pressure was reading 130 lbs... so they replaced my oil presure sending unit and it didn't change anything... however I put 4000 miles on the car with no problems..

2.) After I had my long tubes xpipe and catback installed yesterday as well as the ls7 clutch now when I accelerate, my oil pressure rapidly drops to nothing. And as soon as I slow my acceleration down, it instantly fills back up... I never had this probelm pre-install

PLEASE HELP ME

I wonder why my oil would get low? It doesn't leak any, and I don't think it's been burning... I'm not sure though... I'll check the oil tomorrow.

I would first look into getting the pegged-gauge issue fixed first, either being the sensor or the gauge. May even want to hook up an aftermarket gauge so you can get an accurate reading AND have a working gauge for the future. Then, when you start getting accurate readings, you can go from there.

ok, so I just checked the oil... and the level is fine.... however after driving for an hour or so.... a few times when I was stopped at the light, the oil presure would fall to nothing (according to the gage) however the car didn't change a bit in the way it sounded. But it would instantly shoot back up to 130

That sounds like a good sign to me. If your oil pressure really dropped to zero, you'd definately hear some clanking!

Ok, not a mechanical problem here most likely. I don't have a C5 manual but looking at the fbody one and being they are gonna be wired about 95% the same here is what I have come to the conclusion of. Gauge is fine. Sending unit is fine. You have pinched the oil sender wire under something and it is getting shorted to voltage. Look really hard where you had the motor apart and see if anything was pinched. Also pull the Instrument cluster out and find the wire that is for the gauge. Oil pressure gauge has a dedicated input. Pull out the Cluster and unhook the oil pressure sender and with a good multimeter see if you have any continuity to ground or have a hot on it. If you have a good multimeter you can do this a piece of cake. I'd be willing to bet a wire got pinched eithor under the deck on the heads, under the intake, or under a valve cover. www.alldatadiy.com had all the information you need to track down the problem.

Now the problem has reversed It reads low till i accelerate :-\ haha, no concerns though as it reads 104 when the key is in the on position with the motor off.

That reading is all banged up! Mine reads 40 at idle and only shoots to 65-70ish on WOT then back to 45 when cruising. yeah bring it back to cartek for fix.

Common problem with vettes is the sending unit...

If it is reading 104 with the engine off your sending unit is screwed.
