Default Quick question bout 5/16 dowels?

Does the wooden dowels wedge the lifter to the block on the side? Lookin at the hole, i dont see how the dowel would ever actually go beneath the lifter to prevent it from falling? Just a question thanks fellas

I changed my cam a couple of weekends back and thought exactly the same, as I was swapping the rod bolts out at the same time I just flipped the engine upside down, problem solved! - mind you it helped that the engine was out of the car

There is an undercut on the lifter that the dowel fits in. I don't think the dowel will prevent movement unless it is wedged fairly tight, mine was loose. It should prevent them from falling completely. I looked at my installed rods with a borescope and think the design can be improved. In the end, it is the lifter trays that hold them up out of the way, not the rods.
