Default ls1 for my HHR

I'm new to the ls1 world and I just bought one for my 2006 HHR. I need to know a few things. I bought a 99 ls1 out of a ws6 with a 4l60e tranny. It has 65,000 miles on it. I plan on tearing it down and going through the thing to make sure theres nothing inturnally wrong with it. I need to find out if anyone has welded on these blocks cause there's 3 bosses that are cracked on the right side of the block for the a/c compressor bracket. I want to know what kind of rod to use. I would also like to end up with around 500 reliable hp. I am a long time BBC person so I dont know where to begin with cam selection and what can be done with the heads. When the thing gets done it will be my primary car so it has to be somewhat reliable. I would apreciate any advice, and point me in the direction to get the ball rolling on my new project.

If you want 500 reliable RWHP for a daily driver, then you might sell this and go for 408. If you're thinking 500 at the flywheel, that's not too bad. If you like BBC torque, you might consider building a 383 stroker.

At 500 flywheel and normal rpm range (say 6600 shift points), the stock rods are fine. Use ARP rod bolts.

Yea, Im thinking 500 crank hp. I know what it takes to make 500 rwhp. where are the casting #s on the heads? Im wondering what heads it has and whether or not they are going to work well enough. I was hoping I can leave the stock bottom end alone other than things like you said rod bolts, bearings, rings if needed. I was thinking cam, valvetrain upgrade, mild port work, intake manifold, throttle body, maf, and some computer tuning. Can you eliminate the two rear O2 sensors? Since I probably won't run cats.

What about the ls2 manifold will it bolt on with no other mods to anything other than a throttlebody?
