Default Rear main seal tool??

Hey guys ... my mechanic has unsucessfuly tried 3 times now to get a new rear main seal in the block, but it is leaking everytime. He says he asked around and a GM dealership told him there is a special $500 tool that allows you to put it in correctly.

Does anyone have any idea where I could rent/borrow one of these tools for a day or two? I doubt anyone in the NY - long island area would have one, but any ideas would be great.

Thanks.

It's not any $500 tool, it's just a RMS installer. I'd go to your local dealership and ask them if you can put a deposit down on one or something so you can get it installed. The tool number is J-41479.

I've installed 3 rear main seals, not on the same car, with nothing but a small screwdriver and some patience with no leaking problems. If mechanic cant do it without the tool look somewhere else. JMO though

What about taking your rear plate and having them put the new seal in for you? If you buy it from them, they might not even charge you the labor.
