Question '02 LS6 cam in a '01 LS1

I’m in need of some advice as to what modifications would need to be done to go to a ’02 LS6 cam in a ’01 corvette with a LS1. From what I have learned thus far it appears that I would need to upgrade to the ’02 LS6 springs and go with slightly longer pushrods to make up for the smaller base circle of the LS6 cam. Are these the only major changes that would need to be made? Will the car run worth a darn without reprogramming the ECU (I do realize to fully take advantage of the cam swap this would need to be done)? Input on this modification would be appreciated.

Yes smaller pushrods would be a good idea, but others have gotten away without them. The springs are definate, and the tuning wouldnt hurt. It's not necessary by any means but it will help.

I ran the 02 LS6 cam in my car with zero tuning and it idled and ran perfect for two years. I ran stock pushrods, but going slightly longer would be better. Eventually I got a good dyno tune which really helped especially since it was a A4 with a 3200 stall.

It will be fine without tuning, but getting the rev limiter moved to 6600 would be a big help.. a full tune will make more power as well.

Would a Diablo sport tuner do the job or does the car need to be tuned by a pro?

If you're gonna do it, do it right and dont skimp out on things that you might otherwise miss.

If I were you, I would go with the Katech Torquer cam. It has way better low end than the LS6 and it even makes more power. You should upgrade to the LS6 springs and it would be best to switch to the LS6 valves, but that isn't neccessary. Give Jason a call and he coudl get a full package together for you.

Predator tuner would work fine. Definitely bump the rev-limiter up to 6600. Swap the springs, and use stock-length pushrods.

Will the change to a '02 LS6 cam trip any service engine codes or is it too small of a mod?

it shouldn't trip any codes. If you can, try and get the latter version of the zo6 cam, like the 03-04. I ran 7.425 lenth in PR. Thats the perfect length for the setup. You don't really need to raise the rev limiter to that high, just because the valvetrain supports it, doesn't mean thats where the power is. Mine started dropping in power around 6200-6300. I made 370/370 with mine, all bolt ons minus pulley. I had a lil more left in the tune to. Low to mid 380's wouldn't have been a problem with those taken care of.

Where did you end up getting the 7.425" pushrods? Most I come across go from 7.400" to 7.450". I agree the 7.425" would be ideal. Thanks for the great input!
