What are the differences between the LQ4 and 9?

LQ9,s all had aluminum heads. LQ4 had iron heads until 01-then they were alum.
LQ9 also has higher compression. Otherwise they are very similar but the LQ4 is probably cheaper and easier to find.

LQ9 10:1 CR. Flat Piston. Floating wrist pin. Beefier rod.

LQ4 9.4:1 CR, Dished piston. Pressed wrist Pin.
