Like it says, what is the max stroke I can basically just bolt in? the block was already running a 4 inch crank and I was wondering if I could go to a 4.1 or a 4.125 without spending a ton of money on specialty parts. I already have the pistons and if I have to change them out it is not worth the effort. block an pistons is all that I have right now. Thanks for the feedback guys.
with a 4.125 v/s 4.0 stroke your pistons will come out of the block if they are made for a 4.oo stroke crank.the block will need grinding in some places with a 4.125 stroke,so i've heard.
Yep, if you already have pistons for a 4" stroke, you can not use a 4.125" crank with them. Pistons are ordered to specifically fit the crank. The pin has to be placed in the correct spot, so swapping strokes is a no no.
As for the grinding of the block, I'm sure your sleeves are stock legnth. The ring gaps have to be altered because the spacing for a 4" stroke would actually pull the lower ring close to, or out of the bottom of the bore with a 4.125" stroke. Extra clearencing will also be neccasary to clear rod bolts and such if you decide to go with something longer.
