Default broken bolt HELP

wellll apparently Im a little too swole for my own good lol, I broke off a valve cover bolt inside the head. any tips on WTF to do tomorrow to get that bitch outta there? EZ Out? other?

How much is sticking out? Is it broken at an angle?

If there's 1/2 " sticking out you can buy a tool that goes over broken studs and it has a deathgrip on the stud to turn it out. If there's a little showing but broken at an angle, rag the area off and grind it flat and dead center punch/easy out with lots of wd-40. If it's broken off in the cavity, the biggest concern is getting the 1st pilot hole drilled dead center. Use the smallest bit possible in this situation, then go a size or two bigger till you get to easy out size. -Joshua

Depending on wether there is enough to "grab onto" all of the removal roads are rocky ones.
I would recomend that you completly seal off the area your gonna be working on with tape and a sheet.
Cut a hole in the sheet to expose the area you are gonna work on.

You can try to:
1. Grind a slot in the broken end so you can "unscrew" it (Dremel and a cutoff wheel works).

2. Weld a washer onto the end and use that to grab onto and unscrew it.

3. EZ out.

I am sure there are other methods but these I have seen work.

well it is broken off down in there, there is nothing sticking out. it is about 1/4" inside the head... just where the threads begin on those particular bolts.

If that's the case then easyouts are your only choice. Buy the best one available. The worst thing is to have the easyout break in the center hole you drilled.

You know what.. try this, it may be broken off in there, but it may also be loose in the bore. Get some thin objects and try to turn it out first.

The balancer bolt broke off in the crank when I was changing a cam for somebody and luckily it was not siezed. I spent 45 minutes to get about 2 turns on it. Then I stuck the broken part of the bolt back in the recess and used it as a "key" to unscrew it all the way. Just an idea. -Joshua

The thing that really sucks is that its surrounded by an aluminum head and that its such a tiny *** bolt!

Since it's so small and it's not rusted in there for the last 20 years it shouldn't put up much of a fight. Drill it, easy out and you'll be done. You should have it all done before you finish your second beer.
