Default Lq9 6.0l More Power Needed?????

Looking At Puting In This 6.0l Into My 96 Firehawk What Do In Need To Do To This Engine To Get It To Rev To 7000 And Make Aroung 450 Rwhp I Have A Stand Alone Injection Already So The Swap Should Be Quite Easy, computer Wise But Its Only A 300 Hp Motor With A Truck Cam,so Some Changes Gotta Be Made Please Any Info Would Be Great Thanks.

You can bore it out to 4.030" and stroke it to 4" with some good heads and cam and make over 500 rwhp. If you want to go a cheaper route look into a good head and cam package. Maybe like an afr 225 head with a 230 something duration cam. If you want even more power and drivability isn't a big deal check out thunders trex cam. After upgrading the valve springs and pushrods you should be cool to 7k rpm. You won't necessarily need to rev that high depending on the cam you select.

I'm not too familar with the truck motor, but I know the LQ9 heads have ports like an LS6. However they have 72cc(I think) chambers that'll lower your compression. In addition to a bigger cam, you need to raise CR to get closer to the power level you want. Thin cometic gaskets will get you part way, but you might consider getting those heads ported/milled before assembling the motor. I don't think you can reach your objective of 450rwhp, and a 7k redline w/o some expensive modifications.

People may be making that power with a huge cam, and all the bolt ons with a good exhaust system. Most of the ones I see are m6 with stock rearend= less power loss on the dyno. Doesn't mean they would idle great, and can't use the power with the weak driveline parts.

You could get over 450 with a charger and not change anything else. The stock rockers work great, and upgrading the cam, springs and pushrods are all that is necessary. It will take heads and cam with headers and ls6 or better intake to get 450 rwhp on motor. The trex cam is from thunder racing which is a sponsor on the right. Texas speed, lgm and futural also have some great cams to choose from.

Default I like the 6.0

The LQ9 is good for many types of builds, but it is best suited for forced induction. The heads flow enough for +600hp with a little boost, and the compression is perfect for it! I am using a Wiseco turbo piston that will make SCR around 7.8:1. This would be low even for a turbo motor, unless you make 30psi. LS6 heads would raise the compression about a point, but I would only get them if they were cheap. The stock heads are good. I would suggest turbocharging for more power. Even if you don't build the bottom-end, you can make about 525hp with about 10psi on the stock motor.
