Need info about TXspeed 408
Need info about TXspeed 408 Anyone out there that has one are you having any smoking problems? i have heard of some problems with that from a couple people. And also i notice this engine they say will handle some big power im looking to hit this engine with 250hp of nitrous. TXspeed if you can give any info as well it would be great.
The iron-block 408 is a very popular stroker that we build. All engines are built to strict tolerances, and the only two times we've ever seen customers having smoking problems is with their cylinder heads (either guide or seal problem) or with their factory PCV system. It varies from setup to setup, but some cars will need a catch-can. The factory PCV system can't keep up with the added crankcase pressure, and a catch-can is need to keep the engine from consuming oil that's getting by the PCV. It's a pretty easy fix, though.
As for power potential, any of the off-the-shelf pistons are rated by the manufacturers for up to 200 HP shots of nitrous. For anything past that, they recommend building a custom piston with lowered ring lands. We've built quite a few engines with custom Diamond pistons for big nitrous and big boost applications. Depending on the options selected with the pistons (i.e. dish, flat-top, or dome, standard or upgraded tool steel wrist pins, ceramic coating, HD steel top piston ring, etc.), a custom set can add a few hundred dollars pretty quick. However, if you're looking to hit the engine consistently hard with big power-adders, the few hundred spent now will save a lot more down the road.

I have some custom diamonds in my Z. They will receive a 400 shot helping of N20 and have lowered ringlands with tool steel wristpins. So like what Trevor said again. And yes...Money money money MONEY!
