Default Heads And Cam Or Cam Only???

The engine is out of my 2000 camaro M6 and i dont know whether i want to get heads and cam or just go cam only. I only have about$1600 to spend on the engine cuz i need tires, clutch, etc. I am planning on driving this car about 8 or 9 thousand miles a year so i want something halfway decent on the street but i still want it to be aggressive. I am thinking about going with the Torquer 2 cam b/c i hear people making over 400rwhp with cam only but i dont know if i should buy some Ls6 heads to go with it or stay cam only or consider a whole other heads cam package. Any advice would be helpful. thanks for reading.

I considered the same thing a few months ago.

I went with heads/cam for two reasons.

1. The install is basically the same, why not do everything at once.

2. You'll never regret having "too much power" or being too fast. You will regret not being fast enough.

Not to mention the fact that just because a few people are fast or make good power with the same mods online, doesn't mean you will do the same. Cars respond differently to mods.

Cams will net you more power than heads.

A Thunder Racing CheaTR cam will gain you 35-40 rwhp. This would be on the small side.

A Thunder Racing T-Rex will gain you 60-80 rwhp. This would be on the opposite extreme.

Patriot heads will gain you 20-30 rwhp (heads only). This would be on the more affordable end of the scale.

AFR 205s or ETP 215s will gain you 40-50 rwhp (heads only). This would be on the more expensive end of the scale.

Yes, speed costs money. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that even a small cam like the CheaTR will beat the power gains of budget heads and will near the output of high end heads. Go bigger in cam and you can beat even the killer heads.

Do running the heads and cam together multiply their power or do you pretty much just add them together?

Like most mods, they multiply.

Perfect example, put headers on a stock car, and you might gain 15-20hp.

Put headers on a heads/cam/bolt on, full exhust, tuned car and you could gain 40 hp.
