T-rex Cam

Rear gears have nothing to do with this, all they would allow you to do is to get out of the RPM range where the cam is slacking (Before 4800rpms or so, if memory serves) quicker, and get into the powerband. But, like I said before, if you rev the car high enough, you circumvent this problem.

go higher on your gearing.you will love it.
Long tube headers are almost a must really for any cam to get the most gains everywhere in the rpm range. Also, if you get a good tune, you'll still have pretty good low end. I've seen reports and dyno graphs on here that low end in the 2-3000rpm range is actually pretty good. It's all in the tune. Go to Thunder Racing's website where they have a dyno graph of a t-rex car. The cam is huge for a smallblock on paper, but efficient heads on these LS1's can allow for bigger cams.

2001+ cars have upgraded rod bolts(the same used in the c5 z06) The c5 z06 has a rev limiter of 6500rpms, so I dont see any catastrophic failure past 7k rpms.
