Unhappy Need Help.. What Is This Thing?

Is it part of my Cruise Control?

I have my wheel well plastics off, replacing them, and figure "what the hell" and decided to do the "wire mod" where you hide the ugly harness wires under the engine compartment and between the well plastic.

I went to disconnect the vacuum hose from the thing I have circled in yellow and the nipple busted right off the damn thing. Im going to have to replace it I assume... but Im not sure what the hell it is. Can I plug the open ended hose for now?

Heres some pics... the green circle is the end of the hose that still has the broken nipple in it.

THANK YOU!

Looks like it is important. I have never seen that for as many times as I have climbed under these cars. Is yours a standard or an Auto?

Still dont know what it is but all it has is one hose going into it... and the thing is sealed. Its lite as hell.. like less then a lb. Anyways.. the nipple broke off at the very base so I grabbed some epoxy and slapped some on the broke end of the nipple and pushed it back on. Then filled the base of the hole with about 1/16-1/8 with epoxy.. enough to cover the crack. As soon as it sets up itll be sealed and good enough to serve its purpose again.

Stupid thing is I got ahead of myself and didnt even realize that I didnt even have to unhook that hose at that spot.
