Default Hot Cam Question

I have a brand new HOT CAM (218/227 .525) in the box with LS6 springs. My car is a stock 2002 Z28 with just a LID, MAF, LT's and 4.11's. I wanted to do the cam with LS6 intake and heads but dont have the money for intake, throttle body and heads right now. Does anyone know if this cam will do anything by itself in a stock motor with just a PCM tune or am I just waisting my time?

You most certainly can drop that cam right in, assuming that you will also change your springs.
A cammed car stands out. Sort of makes it special in the eyes of many on-lookers. You have everything you need to get to that next level, so why wait?!
There will be no question about performance increase. After I got my Hotcam I dyno'd 45 additional whp compared to bolt-on's only, after tune.
One thing I don't understand, though, is how you want to do heads and all that other serious stuff, but still only run the Hotcam. You gotta get a more agressive cam as part of the package once it's time for that.
But for now everything will be fine. If I was you, I'd go for it.

Wow.. thats cool, i was looking at this cam spectrum chart and it looks rather mild, i guess the whole point is that its a drop in, step up cam with out going nuts changing other parts. Sounds like I will do it. Are there any drivability issues, loping, crappy idle???

Man, if 230 is "Extreme" I wonder if the Trex and MS3 are "ULTRA EXTREEEMMEEE!".

Yes, 01 and up LS1 motors have the improved LS6 intake manifold.

I dynoed 373/371 tuned with full exhaust and hot cam. It's a decent cam that will keep you satisfied with the driveability and street manners. Plus the idle sounds great too.

hot cam sounds mean, a little more power, but more bark than bite. go for it,
hotcan cam/spray/suspension, high 10's if you can drive.

^^thats my plan, m/t dr's, hotcam, 150shot and a nice big stall might need a cage

thing is, im buying a beater this summer so i could basically do anything mod wise to the car and not worry about milage and drivability, but when pricing out what all id need for a trex cam id need about 1500 in parts alone from cam, springs+dual kit, oil pump, pully, rod bolts, head bolts, pushrods

wit hthe hotcam, the cam itself is cheap, and springs are 100 bucks and pushrods are like 89 bucks, cheap swap and low maintainance

Anyone here know if you can pass CA emissions with the Hot Cam? (I know it's probably illegal, but if it will pass the sniffer I think that would be good enough--I can't see a smog tech pulling out the cam to see if it's stock)

I think with the right tune and your stock manifolds/cats you might have a chance. My emissions were so low in stock trim I don't see how I couldn't.
