Valve guides???

Valve guides??? So, I have a set of 317 heads and the valve guides appear to be steel(powdered metal) and not bronze. Is this normal. I thought ls1 heads had bronze valve guides, I know the last set of 241s that I had were bronze... 
Is ok to run steel valve guides on a high hp motor??
