Default help with oil cap in back of crank

Do anyone know if the freeze plug or cap in the crank has an edge so it won't go in to far or will it go right out the other side into the motor. How deep should it be in the crank past the pilot bearing?

The "cap", if that's what it is, and that's what it is called, has a "lip", or integral "flange" around it, that bears on the rear surface of the crank. Just eyeballing it, it looks like there's about 3/8" between the back edge of the pilot bearing, and the "cap".

Don't worry about it going in too far. When I went to pull the OEM pilot bearing, I thought I could use the "hydraulic" method...you know, where you pack the space between the pilot bearing and the rear of the crank full of grease, and then whack the **** out of a brass drift in the hopes that the grease will hydraulically force the pilot bearing out? Not! I rented a slide hammer, and had the stupid thing out in 10 minutes. The back of the crank, if that is a "cap" didn't budge a nanometer, and I was beating on that drift for all I was worth.

I did the same hydraulic pilot bushing trick and I too smacked that thing for all I was worth and all I can say is man am I only turned down a section of that driver. Still i barfed out the plug into the pan.

Anyways mine has a slight ridge inside the cavity preventing the plug from going in too far but it fits fairly loose. Loose enough that I can slide in in and out by hand so I am going to try and order a new one.

Part numbers anyone???
