What all would you need to put an engine together?

What all would you need to put an engine together? Let's say I was going to take a roller car and drop an LS1 into it.
Now the obvious choice would be to get a used LS1 + tranny off of eBay. But I'd want upgraded heads, a cam, and possibly a more stout or higher compression block. So it really wouldn't do me much good to buy the eBay motor anyways.
So what all would I need? I would get my built shortblock from wherever, a cam from wherever, and a set of heads from... wherever. So what's left to make this a motor that I can just drop into the car?
There'd obviously be the PCM, then whatever accessories I'd need. And obviously things to put the block to the heads (gaskets, bolts, etc) but what else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Oh and while we're at it, if I'm looking for an auto tranny, can I just get a stocker? Or should I be looking at a rebuilt and upgraded one? This tranny would be seeing 11 second (stalled) passes.
