Default Re-use timing chain gear on crank?

If I were to put a ls2 timing chain on, or any single roller for that matter on my ls1, could I re-use the timing chain gear on the crank? It's HARD to get off.

Suggestions?

I know if you use the LS2 chain you re-use the stock gears.
