how good are a pair of A.R.E. heads for an ls1 that are stage 3 ported from like 2yrs ago

Some were excellent, some were not. Your best bet would be to get the head thoroughly inspected, flowed and volumes poured by a competant independant machine shop.

I would check the valve job for certain.At that time they were notorious for shipping poor quality heads.

Ouch!!! Don't give him more to think about. These heads were on a 99 Silverado truck running 13.50's on nitrous.
