Oil Change After Head/Cam Install?
Just finished a head and cam swap. Before starting I poured oil over the timing chain and rocker arms. Buttoned it up and drained the oil. Filled with fresh oil. Started it up and ran for about 10-15 minutes. Took it down the road about 3 miles and shut it down for the night. Next day, let it get to operating temp, shut it down and changed the oil and filter (used Mobil 1 5w30). My question is, am I good to go until normal oil change interval or do I need to change the oil again sooner do to the H/C swap? Thanks

I don't think that you need to change the oil sooner than normal. If this was a freshly rebuilt engine, I would recommend an additional oil change in 1,000 miles due to the minor amount of metal you would be getting in the oil as the rings seat to the cylinder walls. However, a cam with roller rockers, etc. are not producing any little metal shavings to amount to anything at all. You are good to go in my opinion.

you should be ok, i don't ever let mine go 3,000 miles though. that is just me! also you should use a thicker oil like 0-40 or 5-40, the thicker oil will help slow down oil consumption with a cam heads as well.
