Default need help with oil pump..

i think my oil pump might be goin bad, it idles a lil off when warmed up and the flow moves between 25-35 psi when warmed up. theres also a very very slight hollow slap, or thump sound which doesnt sound to bad. so does this look like it could be going bad? does it throw a code or what, i mean how can i tell? the oil looks good and it hasnt leaked any, doesnt smell burnt or anything. also where is the oil pump located? as in reference to?? how much do shops usually charge to change one out?....i know these might be newbie ? but i gotta learn sometime, thanks

75k and the cars under warranty for another 10k so otherwise i would do exactly that. but this is my daily car and its just important to know if its gonna blow up on me or something. right now it feels fine other then the slight wabble in the idle and the gauge psi.

The oil pump is right behind the crank pulley/balancer, and in front of the lower timing chain sprocket. I read that you only need about 10 psi for ever 1000 rpm. I am changing my pump with the new LS4 pump. I would recomment installing a LS2 timing chain while you was in there. And it would be a very econimcal time to change the cam too if you had plans for it.

hmm so im guessing the engine will have to be pulled to replace this? and not to sound like a jerk but 10 psi sounds a lil low for every 1000rpms. my cars under warranty and i cant really add aftermarket internals to it, i just really needed to know what kinda deal im getting into here, if this is gonna take a week or what. is there anything else internal that could be doing these symptoms besides the oil pump?

You could do it yourself. Check LS1howto.com for an idea of what's actually involved. The motor DOES NOT need to be removed! Should take a good shop a couple hrs. The dealer on the other hand.... probably a couple days

75K miles and still under warranty? What a deal! You must have bought this car used which is another way of saying you don't know the history of this vehicle. That being said you have no way of knowing whether the pressure gradully dropped over time or suddenly plumetted the day before you bought it. This isn't the type of thing that will set a DTC and cause your SES to come on. If your oil level gets too low you will get a warning on your message display, but you not currently worried about that. LSX engines make plenty of oil pressure seeing as how the pump is crank driven rather than cam driven which reduces output because of the reduced speed. Chances are your OK, but if you're a wrench turner you can get the pressure back up for under $200.
