Lifter tray drill mod ???
Some people think that the oil in the trays are key to the life of the lifter in a street car. I didnt do this in my motor because I read that on here somewhere. I'll try to post a link.
I didn't do it on mine, just doesn't seem to be a worthwhile mod unless maybe the car is running on a track, not drag strip. We have seen a lot of lifter issues recently, I wouldn't do anything that would jeopardize oiling but that is just me.

The oil in the lifter trays is on top of the lifters....and drilling the holes allows only excess oil to drain, with plenty still 'on top".
Besides, how can oil on top of the lifter benefit the life of the lifter? Maybe the article can shed some light on whatever it is I'm missing here.

So who has done it?? Any problems with lifter noise?? I cant imagine it would. I'm putting this engine back together today. I wanted to get some more info before I did it. If not then I guess it's going back together with no holes !!!

But it's such a small amount of oil that collects there. I don't know if drilling is worth much benefit.
From Handzel's book..."A good trick to improve oil control in a hot-rod Gen III V-8 is to drill these 1/2" drain holes in the lower face of the lifter retailer trays above each lifter. On a production engine, having engine oil pooling here is acceptable, but on a high-rpm engine, having oil lying around only costs power and causes the oil to foam and get hot."
