Question help with finding what engine i have (LS1 or LS6)

i bought a LS1 from a junk yard. the trans am that i pulled had had the vin numbers riped off so there was no way of finding out the specifics of the engine. the junk yard owner had a rough idea of what year the car was but wasnt sure. he said its either a 99 or 2000. i really wanted to find out if this was the ls6 instead of the ls1. i have all the codes that were molded into the block thats i could find. can anyone tell me what kind of block i have or tell me a sight that i can look them up for my self? thanks.

the codes are as follows:

code on block-12559287 (and then some sort of weird "P" after that)
code on top of block-(some sort of weird "N") 12561168
code on heads (its a sticker with a bar code that was on the head)- CHA 10CHA K022130104 123

Ok dude, first, you should do a search on here. Once I did that, I found that your block is an LS6.

On your heads, you need to tell us the cast in number on the little pad. It should be a 3 digit number, either a 241 or 243 or 853 I believe!!!

Do a search for this stuff from now on. Not being mean, just saves a post or two hear and there!!!

sounds like he is saying you have an LS6 block which would make the car it came out of an 01 or 02 model, seeing as how the LS6 blocks were not used in 98,99 or 2000 (pre-Z06 years). 243 is the casting number for the LS6 heads. 241 and 853 are LS1 casting heads, 853 being mid 99-2000 and 241 being 01-02 heads.

oh and by doing a search, the guy means on this site. there is a search button on this site to search only this site. he didnt mean to search the internet through like google or yahoo.
