First ever Bumper to Bumper cam question..
I have a 68 camaro that will have a ls1. I'vbeen reading a lot of posts, the
car will have a 700r4 (or 200r4).. the rear is a 9" with 3.70 and i need a cam and stall that will let my wife drive the car on the Long island expressway in the summer traffic (people who live in NY know what i am talking about but bumper to bumper is considering moving) the car may be on the Long island expressway for an hour everyday just to go 15 miles ..so I need somthing very, very, very streetable for everyday traffic and parking lots(one that feels and runs close to stock)...However i would love to have a little fun with the car on the weekends from street light to street light but never the strip.. here is what i'm thinking a 2400 stall converter (up from the stock 1800) and a TR 220/220 551/551 114cam (up from the stock 197/207 467/479stock). I know I would get a lot more power with a 3000 stall and TR's 224 cam (i'm sure 95% of you would call the 224 and 3000 streetable) but keep in mind this car will be in traffic in NY moving inch by inch and driven by my wife 1/2 the time..Also would like to make the 68 sound like a muscle car if i could as well I know that may be tough wit a small cam
will this work OK for my needs? too big? too small? should I go with the popular 224/224 cam with 114 and the 2400 or is that risking too big a cam for my traffic problems with the 3.70 rear? Think this may be the first bumper to bumper traffic cam and stall question

Since it is a 68, does it have to pass emissions? That might be an even bigger restriction. Honestly, either cam would be just fine with a good tune, just make sure the tune is focused on driving and not on best HP.
Are you planning to run headers or manifolds? If manifolds, I'd suggest a split duration cam, something like a 218/224 on a 112 LSA, or on a 110 if you have a really good tuner. More overlap and a tighter LSA will give you more muscle car sound without too much duration.
As for the stall, we're not talking much cam here, so you can always try the stock converter first to see if it would be livable. If you do get one, just make sure you get a real good tranny cooler to deal with the heat and traffic.
Good Luck!

going with headers and no emissions test
thanks for the reply.. I'm going with full headers and there is no emissions test here in NY(over 25 years).. I thought the 112 was a bit low since i don't want the car to seem like its keep looking for idle or stall at all...I was worried that a stock stall on either a 220/220 or 224/224 would make the car feel like a slow dog and that's why i went with the baby stall of 2400... Is anyone running a stock stall and 220/220 or 224/224 with headers and around 3.73 in the rear? can it work well? is 2400 stall tooo much for constant traffic durring the week? need some help from some city folks out there

Wish i did not have traffic
My commute to works kinda sucks .. but it seems like it would be more pleasurable in a 68 camaro with a nice sounding ls1.. just don't want to overcam or over stall the car.,wondering if 224/224 tr cam 114 lsa with a 2400 stall would be to much for bumper to bumper traffic or would it seem stock with a good tune.. should i go down to 200/200 114? never drove in a car with anything above normal 1800 stock so just wondering

I have no problem idling with my FM13. 900 RPM is no prob, but it's a manual. Check and see how it does in autos, but it is very streetable and you'll love the top end. The graph of the torque curve is in my sig. Goodluck with the project.
