Default porting stock ls1 heads

a local performace shop said he can port the stock heads. would i have to change out anything or will just the porting be alright. also he probably has minimal experience porting so i dont know if i could trust him to do such a job. also this is my daily driver so if he messes up my heads somehow i would be outta luck. let me know what you think.

I wouldn't do it. Porting heads is not just something you throw a grinder on. You need to know what you are doing or you can actually hurt the flow that you already have, or you can screw up other stuff by running into a water jacket or hitting the valve seat.

I had a friend buy some used TEA heads advertised as 310+cfm but they flowed less than 280cfm. I think he told me they have a different flow bench technique or something. I'm not bashing them just letting you know what I heard.

I'd send Gunnar at Patriot Performance a PM or give him a call. He is known for great service and I'm sure he'll point you in the right direction.

Total Engine Airflow does not have a "different flow bench technique". Brian Tooley, the owner of TEA, uses the correct method, which is the same one used by other high quality shops. There are no regulations when it comes to flow testing cylinder heads, which is the reason why so many shady companies and individuals can monkey with their flow bench and crank out bogus big flow numbers to look like they are as good as the top companies. No organization monitors cylinder head porting companies to ensure that they are all using a uniform technique. However, there are standards that are used by the companies that know what they are doing. I believe the standard bench pressure to use is 28-inches of water, which is the way TEA flows cylinder heads. You can read more about this topic at the links below...
