ET's are just as expensive as AFR's.

I have one of the first sets of MTI LS6 heads that they ported/polished stage 2's for when I was heads/cam. When I got the 427 they went through them a little bit for the bigger intake valve 2.08 and some exhaust port work. It flowed a little better, which anything would help. My heads didn't flow like others have posted. My LS6 heads were like the second set they laid their hands on, but I made some great numbers on the dyno.

With my first cam in the 427 I had MTI's Z1 (236/236 .585/.585 112lsa). I made like 530rwhp and 512rwtq.

With the MTI S1 cam (244/244 .612/.612 112lsa) I picked up alot across the board, I made 545rwhp and 520rwtq.

Both cams that I have had are baby cam's for these 427 motors, I could have gone even bigger then the S1 cam, but I don't need it nor want it. I like the way it drives around the streets, very mild mannered with a great idle.

Here is the dyno:

BTW- Thanks MTI!!!

Peace,
Craig.

one thing to keep in mind is your compression ratio, the LS6 heads have a small combustion chamber at 64cc. since I don't know what piston you are running I can't determine compression, but say you are using a -2cc valve relief piston, your compression would be about 12.5:1 and would not run on pump gas.
a Patriot stage 3 setup of some sort should work fine, but what kind/style of pistons did you go with?

I'm bringing this thread back to discuss 427 cams. I will be having to buy one soon but have no idea of what size to get. I read Craig's post and got a general idea of duration needed. The main question I have is... a 224/224 114 in a 346ci = 2xx/2xx 1xx in a 427ci in terms of powerband, idle, lope, driveability, lobe, etc...??? That will give me a good idea to where to start. I want something a little bigger with some lope and tons of low end torque, top end power is not a huge deal. I plan on having to swap cams for smog.

The heads will(hopefully) be Warhawk LS7x heads that flow pretty well with stainless valves, so no radical lift and crazy lobe profile cams. No plans for N20 or FI either. Street driven.

I'm running a 244/250 112. Before the motor was running, I was thinking I went too small after reading people saying how small it was for a 427. But let me tell you it has a serious lope, it sounds very radical and turn heads everywhere I drive. You know it's good when you sit at a stoplight and see everyone looking at your car wondering what the hell it is. At the same time, drivability is perfect. I can cruise at 1500rpm on the highway with zero bucking or surging and get 26mpg. Made it from southern NC to central NJ (500 mi trip) on less than two tanks before the motor was broke in. The motor has never died at a stoplight, even with the AC on. Needless to say, I have torque in abundance everywhere. First three gears are worthless on street tires lol. I think it's the perfect street 427 cam for someone who still wants a lumpy idle. I do need to get my tune a little tweaked and some dyno numbers, maybe the idle will smooth out some then, I don't know.
