Hell no I wouldn't take my heads off just to change my lifters. my car had 90k heads and cam on stock lifters and it was just fine.

if you're planning on doing heads, then change them while they're off, but it's way too much work to take the heads off just to change them. Besides, it works the oposite way. If you're changing your heads, its minimal work to change a cam at the same time, not vice versa.

Btu hey, if you wanna do it, go ahead!! I'd say buy some nice AFRs at the same time!

as long as they are in good shape i wouldnt. but there is always a chance you get it together and have to tear it down agai ncause of the lifters.

Had 105k miles on my car before I changed my stock lifters. Had already been through 3 different cams. Ended up changing them for piece of mind and they looked fine.

I had a lifter collapse with 74k on the clock...stock cam.

I wouldn't do it, but budget to do it if they do infact fail.

if you're going to tear off the heads, you might as well get you a set of ported ones. i would'nt take off the heads just for a lifter swap. 50,000 miles is fine.

Just did heads/cam/headers/roller rockers and alot more. I spent too much money already and stayed with the stockers and all is fine so far. I am at 50,000 miles so figured they would be fine.

Keep the stockers. If a new cam is going to chew up the old lifters, it would chew up new ones just as easily.

I'd do the stockers if you must replace them, but I think you're fine with 50k miles.

i heard 98-99 cars had weaker lifters in them. i don't know if thats true or not. about half the people i've talked to had to tear down there heads because of a collasped lifter after a cam swap. but i agree w/Quick on this one

The Ls1 and Ls7 use the same exact same lifter. Absolutely no difference in them. That is straight from an Eaton source.
