Default High volume oil pumps, why ??

Are there any benifits of running a high volume oil pump other than the sponsors would love to sell you one?
I just don't see the need to dump more oil into the top of the engine when these LSx engines have such a bad problem with excess oil in the top end and need catch cans to catch the extra oil that gets sucked into the PVC system anyways. I would think that since a stock engine with a stock oil pump will run for 100K+ miles with no problems then a built engine would be fine too.
I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the Dart head smoking issue?
I'm not a noob to building engines, but I am a noob to LSx engines.
Engine builders, chime in here please.

To feed the lifters with more oil since the smaller base circles lower them into the lifter sleeve and reduce their capabilities to maintain adequate pump.
This is mainly beneficial with high lift cams, I found that untill .600 it is not really a big issue (~ 1.45x base circles)
IMO for race applications, yeah necessary, for street no really.

I see you are running the ported Darts, are you having oil issues? Stock pump?

A higher volume pump is more desireable when you start opening up clearances IE mains and rods to obtain as much HP as you can by opening up clearances. Looser isn't better in terms of a street motor though.

I don't have it together yet, I'm waiting to see what becomes of the smoking issue before I put them on and the engine back into the car.
