Finally Done With Cam Install!!!!!
Woo Hooo!!!!!
Finally finished up a cam install on Saturday afternoon. Got the car to idle decently, with a few more changes later on the in the night causing the idle to be too high (whoops).
Anyway... we started out on Tuesday night around 6:00. Pulled the radiator, crank pulley, timing chain cover, valve covers, rockers, pushrods, cam sprocket, swapped the cam and attempted to line it all up. Broke the harmonic balancer / crank pulley. We ended the night around 3:00.
Wednesday... we started in on the valve springs. Started again about 6:00... and worked until 12:00. Got 7 springs done. POS tools from Autozone and Discount Auto is what made it take forever.
Thursday... learned a tip on the valve springs from a post on ls1tech.com. Made a tool to compress the springs... did the other 9 in 2 hours. Re installed the pushrods / rockers. Degreed in the cam with the crank. Ended the night around 11:00.
Friday... started around 6:00. Finished off the valvetrain. Bolted the timing chain cover back up, put the crank pulley on, bolted the water pump up. Reinstalled the radiator and cleaned everything up to get ready to start it up. Started her around 10:00. Wouldnt idle worth ****. Massive missing. Checked over the wires, found a few off the coil packs.
Got them on... car still wouldnt idle... no more missing detectable. Got on the throttle a bit... started it up... went to two grand and it was dead smooth. No missing. Nice.
Saturday... drilled out the throttlebody to 11/64". Car idled. Oh baby. Headed out to the Wing House. Afterwards, we headed over to Lugo's to see how the Supra dyno was going. Didnt get to dyno it. Driving it home as it got colder... it started having some idle issues. Headed to Home Depot and picked up an 15/64" drill bit. Drilled it out. Now it idles too high.
Least it's running and driveable now. Info on the cam... 218/227 duration, .525/.525 lift, 112LSA. You can definately tell it's cammed. Has a beautiful burble to it at idle.
I am happy with the results. And somehow it gave me some insane gas mileage... or my gauges are messed up. I am having some issues with converter lockup... as the computer thinks it is misfiring at idle. Otherwise... everything is gravy. Pulls like all bloody hell up top, and is nice and torquey down low.

Glad everything went somewhat smooth. Im not sure what your going to do about the oversized hole in your throttle body but im sure you can have your idle taken car of. you could probably get away with a 900rpm idle with a little timing added.
I'll figure something out on the Throttle Body. Unfortunately they dont sell the throttle plate seperately from the throttlebody.
Might hit up a junkyard and swap them out.
There is a shop in Orlando that does minimal programming that does not require dyno tuning (i.e. rev limiter, shift points, codes...etc) for $60 with LS1 Edit.
It actually idles decently at 750 with a few misses going on.

Thats the cam I want to use. But I don't want problems with the lockup. What does it do? Have you figured that out yet?
What exhaust are you using?
I am also in Orlando, and would like to know who does the $60 ls1 edit work.

That would be us
Minor correction on the pricing...
If you attended the dyno day this past weekend the cost is $60. If not the cost is $65 until the 31st of this month at which time $75 will become our standard price.
For that price we will change anything short of touching fuel and or timing.
Call me if you have any questions.

I said fug it and got it dyno tuned.
Runs alot better, and Im glad I did it on the dyno vs. just getting some parameters updated.
Tim did a HELL of a job.
