Default new to LS1 tech, one question

alright so i do performancetrucks.net but i wanted to come over here and see what you guys had to say. with my 5.3 i have the LS6 cam in it right now and i want to upgrade it. im thinking the FMS F2 or F4 on 112 then i was researching the cheaTR cam and i was considering a custom grind of 218/228 .588 114 or a 221/226 .585 112....what do you guys think would be best? the truck is a daily driver wanting to have very noticable gains over the mild LS6 and wanting to lay some decent track times

For good power and driveabilty I'd check out TSP's Torquer 2 or Thunder Racing's 228r. I don't know much about custom grinds but I hear those are some good DD off the shelf cams.

EDIT: What size valves are in the 5.3 heads-you shouldn't have PV issues but it's good to check.

yea im not sure what size they are but i know i wont have any PV issue. only thing is that with the torquer cams they are pretty big, in the 230's and with my 327 ci, its decently less than yalls ls1's. i dont want to have to be spinning my motor up to 7k all day.

*edit* keep in mind i weigh 5000 lbs and only have a 3200-3400 converter. thats why im not going 23x/23x

for a DD truck id look at the old man cam or the cheaTR cam, esp in a 5.3L
dont go over 225ish on the duration

see i definitly want to go bigger than the old man cam...doesnt the cheaTR cam run up to 228? i did reseach that and decided against it because it requires a dual spring set up and i already have the 918's so ive been talking to futral motorsports and he recommended 218/228 .588 114 or a 221/226 .585 112. for my set up. i agree with not going over 225ish cuz after that it revs too high and the truck intake leaves alot on the table. though i will be going with the ls6 intake sometime soon

The LS6 cam is alittle more topend oriented than I would think you would want in a 4000 lbs + truck. I'm not super knowledgeable on cams so I would defer to somebody else on that. If I had to guess I'm gonna guess something around the 220 range on both the intake and exhaust on a 114 is roughly where you would want to be on a DD truck. I might be wrong but I wouldn't want to overcam it eithor.

yea i know about the LS6 cam, its decent now because of my stall and everything but it specs out at 204/218 .551 . 541 117.5.....220 range is a little low for the application im looking for. i was debating for the longest time between 224 and 226 until i started lookin at the cheaTR. im sure others will chime in with thier opinions too
