its cheap insurance especially with a higher milage motor, take into consideration though you will need to take off the heads to do the lifters, more of an excuse to get a set of sick *** heads!
I wouldn't waste my time replacing the lifters unless I was putting on heads. It's a big project for just doing in your gerage and expensive for a shop.
You're getting a cam, just save up for a set of decent heads after you put your cam in and change them at that time.
I beat on my old motor pretty good with 90k on it. It had heads and cam since 40k with the stock lifters and never had a problem.

no you shouldnt "NEED" new lifters/rockers, but it wouldnt hurt to have. MTI did all that when they put on the heads, then it blew driverside headgasket, and a whole bunch of other problems...and that install was done by "professionals" it could all be yours for 4 grand
.
what size cam you putting in anywhooo? that plays a role in what supporting parts you need. thought you said it was a smaller one so you should be fine with hardened pushrods, springs, retainers and what not.

whats up man! I was thinkin about ur situation with the coolant in the exhaust and they probably did a **** port job, and ported to far in to one of the water jackets. Anyways Im gonna go with a Comp XER 226/228 .581 .585 on a 112 +2 with 918s and chromoly pushrods LS6 oil pump and underdrive pulley and its gonna be tuned by Gforce. Good to hear from ya

jeeze, why does comp feel they need to add so much lift to their cams??? .585 on a 228? and their 224 is a .581. My tsp 233 239 barely hit .600. Even the TR 224 is only .560.
918's are supposed to be good to .600, but why chance it. I wouldnt use them over .560 or so. Doubles aren't that much more.
yeah im not sure what they did, the pressure tested the coolant system and then took the heads off and tested those again and said that the heads were not the problem. My car overheated one day because of the coolant problem, that was when i believe the head gasket fucked up. but its all straight now thank god.
you might want to consider a slightly smaller cam maybe a 222 or 224, but then you really wont get the "idle" lope sound your looking for. I have a 228 and mine is slightly noticeable. if i had to do it again i would have probably gone with a 230 or more, but im happy with what i got. Whatever cam you get, its all about the tune
G-force is great choice, right down the road from me, heard nothing but good things
