quick question about timing

quick question about timing im assuming that when i put in my new cam all the timing will be dont when i put in the new springs correct? fill me in a bit as to how you did it... thanks
the camshaft is what determines your cam timing,just line it up to the crank gear dot to dot.All the springs to is hold the valves closed,and when you change them the top dead center method is probably the easiest.check out ls1howto.com
you will never get a cam that doesnt get setup out of the box dot to dot.After you install the cam dot to dot the only way you will know is if you degree the cam with a degree wheel,and a small one if its still in the car.Degreeing a cam with the heads on requires some patience and skill,but can be done accuratly.Every cam will come with a cam card and on the card it will say what ICL (intake center line) the cam should be installed at.My cam has a ICL of 110*,My lsa is 112.This means that my cam has 2 degrees of advance already ground in the cam,which cant be changed,When i degreed it,it came out to 110.5* ICL,it was only off by a half degree,so i left it.

sorry to keep bugging you but i want to make sure i have this perfect (im a realatively new gearhead and this is my first cam install)
my lobe separation is 112.2 and my intake centerline is 108.2
thus i need 4 degrees of advance on this cam correct?
is it going to be self explanitory when i get the degree wheel or do i need to know which way the cam needs to turn in order to advance it (i would assume turning one way would advance and one way would retard)

you dont have to advance the cam,see the cam comes with that 4 degrees ground into it,they grind it that way,this means that when you install it dot to dot,it should be good to go.All you have to do is put the degree wheel on it and see if it hits that ICL of 108.2.If its off my more then 1 or 2 *,then you can get an adjustable timing chain and set it to the 108.2 yourself.Let me know if ya got it.If you still arent sure,you will see when you go to put it in what im talking about.Most people dont even degree there cams,but its good practice.
