Default Which heads for me?

I am wanting to increase my HP and torque across the powerband. I won't be at the track more than 1-2x/yr. In other words, low and midrange power is more important than what I'm making when I'm revving the ***** off it.

The following mods are going on the car very soon:
Cam: 224/224 588"/588" 112LSA (F2)
LS6 Intake
LS6 ported oil pump
LS2 timing chain

The following mods are already on the car:
Airlid
Hedman LT headers
4.10 gear

Because my setup is nothing spectacular, I'm thinking I could get some good power from 5.3L heads, although that is only because I believe they provide more compression with equivalent flow to my stock heads. But any suggestions are welcome since I know jack crap. My only request is that we try to keep it reasonably priced since I obviously don't want a supercar. This is driven almost daily, and currently is a DD since my wife wrecked my spare car. So talk to me about reliable increased compression via heads for more torque/HP.

i think a set of milled patriot heads or dart 205's, and run a thinner gasket to bump up the compression would be a great head for your set up.

Afr 205's would be awsome but they are price and since your not looking for every last pony they might be too much for your own good.

Did you know that SUMMIT currently has the pretty impressive DART LS1 heads on sale assembled for $1,290 shipped? I just ordered mine in the 225cc version for my future forged stock cubed LS6 motor being built by LME as we speak, to be powered by ECS D1SC Procharger system. That is a KILLER PRICE for sure!!

Yep thats exactly what i got mine through summit for, got htem a few weeks ago and already got them on the car. For a brand new casting and the price they are hard to beat, but the 225's would be to big for him, 205's would be perfect.

I prefer the darts since they are still as cast and leave you options down the road but i'm a little bias since i have them, but patriot and PRC/TSP make a damn nice head for the price, so you can't leave them out of the mix.

This is a great thread..

I've been thinking about throwing a cam in the T/A for some time now.. N4cer, my car is basically modded just like yours and I have the same plans for it..

I've never really researched heads, what kinda gains could be expected with a nice set of heads? I am on a limited budget and have been thinking about getting some ported LS6 heads... Although, if I could get a set of nicer flowing heads for a lil' more, then maybe I'd do that..

However, if I do all this, I'mma have to get a new rearend..

I am just starting to research this.. Does the engine need to be pulled to throw a set of heads on, or could you do it at the same time as a cam swap?
