Default Ls1 Light Build

Swapping an LS1 into my 3rd gen

have not the slightest clue where the weakest link is in the motor

but i want 350 horses and 370 sq. ft. lbs. of torque

now the stock heads that i have found for it flowed 283 intake and 217 exhaust.

should i have those ported??

and i want a mild cam, throttle body, headers, true duals, a lid, and a tune

where would u guess that would put me... and the intake should support all that right?

recommendations for a cam and throttle body?

should i worry about valvesrpings?

How streetable do you want the car to be? The stock heads should work fine for 350 horses no problem, with bigger cams they see 400++hp. If you can get a good deal from a talented local porter you could try to get them around 300 or so. I wouldn't pay more than $400 though.

A mild cam? Well there is a pretty big window. I think a 228 on an Xer lobe would work great as a DD, but if you wanted to go a little bigger with a sicker idle and a SLIGHT drop in drivability you could look into something in the early 23x range. Call the boy's over at TSP (www.texas-speed.com) and they could point you in a general direction, Thunder Racing could help you out as well.

As for headers, Pacesetter LT's are the discount headers on the market right now. They seem to work pretty well too. There is another brand you may come across called Flowtechs that seem to be a better buy but stay away from them. True duals could be done custom at a shop and you'd save money from the shipping costs.

The TB can be self ported but if you watch the "for sale" section on this site there are some for sale for around $100 or so. Look for "jantzer" "shaner(s2)" or "bo white" as they are all pretty reputable porters. A lid can be had on here for $50-75.

For the cam install I would get new pushrods (hardened and 7.400 length), an LS2 timing chain (tougher than the stock one), an LS6 oil pump (a ported one is NOT necessary) and spring set from one of the sponsors. I can't recommend one since you aren't positive what the duration/lift will be on the cam you are running.

Have fun with the build!

port the tb, go with a sleeper cam, maybe a cheatr...something that has manners....weak links include water pump, oil pump, and some gaskets and seals.....go with some pacesetters, and bullet mufflers for the true duals...get a ls6 intake....port the heads when you put the cam in, and YES u have to get new springs...id say some more stuff to.....im running almost 330/340 with what i have now
