Default Cam and valve spring question

Has anyone tried doing a cam on an LS1 without doing valve springs, I know that you are supposed to do both at the same time, but I was just wondering if it was absolutely necessary. I realize that it depends on how aggressive the cam is as well. Just looking for some input from someone who has tried this before.

Stock LS1 springs are about maxed out. You would not want to run any other cam with stock ls1 springs. Maybe a ls6 cam, but if your going to do a cam why bother with a small one like that. Do what i did, and pop for the MS3

The engine won't be happy at all. Something will bend or break pretty quickly. I haven't tried it and don't plan to.

You shouldn't even use a ls6 cam without ls6 springs.

There is no reason it would be 'absolutely necessary' a try and run a aftermarket camshaft with stock springs.

Take it from me, I tryed not changing the valve springs when I had done a cam change, 1,000 dollars later after I had to tear it all down again to get a valve job. Change the Springs, save your money.

I don't like running the stock cam on the stock springs if that tells you anything.

Do not swap cams without changing springs. PERIOD.

Even if all you get is an LS6 or Hotcam you at least need some LS6 springs. For anything more serious get some Comp 918s. For serious cams, go with duals.
