Default How would this cam do?

The cam I was thinking of is a comp grind the specs are:

226/226 .585/.585

The car: 98 Z28 A4, Macs, ORYP, lid, 3500 stall

Now what my main question is what LSA should I get it on a 112 or a 114. I realize that a 114 would yeild more top end power but what would be the benefits of a 112? Will the torque peak at a lower RPM than the 114? Also if I go with the 112 how much advance should be ground in? +2? +4?

Let me know what you guys think
Any help is greatly appreciated

TIA,
Blake

P.S. I can live with the drivability of a 112

What I can tell you is that all other things being equal, the 112 LSA will give you a rougher idle, but better midrange torque and higher peak torque. Peak HP should be about the same, with power falling off a little more quickly after peak with the 112 LSA. This seems to be the rule on cam comparisons I have seen.

Guys with M6's tend to favor the tighter LSA, with more A4'ers opting for wider. I think this is due mostly to idle concerns with autos, which can, however be overcome by raising the idle speed with programming.

With your high stall 'verter I would think 2 degrees advance should be good enough for the low end and give you good power up top with the 112 LSA. Keep in mind there is usually some slack/retard in the stock timing chain.

One other note: that cam should make great power, but lift may be a little higher than is worthwhile with stock heads, and will require some really good valve springs. I don't think I would go that aggressive on ramps without some stage II heads with a double spring setup. Just my $.02.

226/112 is a great cam with a big stall and some gear. 226 is about the max I would personally do in a stock cube car that is daily driven.
