If one understands cam dynamics, one will know what to choose for their aplication.
Most poeple here just look at advertised cams and jump on them, without understanding what it takes to maximize the said cam.
\overcamming is rampant. \a track car setup is a whole other ballgame than a street one, yet quite a few ignore that, and I think mostly out of excitement for power.

Some cam to drag, and some cam to brag.

Seriously, the sound of an aftermarket cam can be made to sound as mean or tame as you want with idle tuning. Adjusting idle rpm up or down will give you the sound you want. Choose a cam based on your performance goals, then adjust the idle speed to suit your sound desires.

Very true, you should have seen my face when I fired the 370 today with a 232/234 113+0.
I thought, is that the same cam that was in the 346?
7* overlap and at 900 rpm, it just purred like a kitten. After 15 min of warming up I reduced to 700 and then the lope was more distingtive, I found 800 to be a happy medium.

I think you need to sort out the rest of your setup first and decide on what goals you want for the car - Realistic goals.....
Although I fully believe cams such as the MS3 can be daily drivers I also firmly beleive they are compromised and probably a handful.
For me this is actually a plus point and I would be quite happy running an OTT setup for the street in my z/28, I already do in my TR7 V8.
But it really isn't for everyone.
If you find yourself tending to drive more in the lower rpms and being in a gear higher than you could. And don't go to WOT or the red line that often. Then a large high rpm orientated cam really is not the way to go.
It will lack the low end torque and puch and will probably feel sluggish most of the time.
A milder cam with a broader powerband will give you the instant kick in the pants feel most are after. And as long as you match the cam well it should still hold it's own up high as well.
So for that type of driving a milder cam will be faster and more powerful 90% of the time.
When most people want a fast car, they usually think they need more HP but what they actually want is more torque!
well I want a very streetable cam but I want to make good power through the whole power band. I do mainly city driving not very much highway. But I still want it to sound like I have a cam. I don't want it to lope like crazy but I want a decent lope. I want it to sound as mean as it looks at idle like at a stop light.
I'm happy with my 228R. It sounds amazing through the duals. It has perfect street manners. My torque is very flat across the entire powerband. With my trap speed it should be an 11 second vehicle and could be my daily driver.
although i think if pat. pred. Z spec'd a cam for me it wouldnt really be a question which one id go with.
