Default The beast is Alive once again.

Well install is over, took my helper and I the best part of 5 days. I took my time and I think it paid off.

Motor:
370 LME Iron Block (2005 new block)
4.030 bore
6.125 Callies rods
Wiseco nitrous pistons with 2.2 cc VR. (.010 out of hole)
3.622 stock crank
PRC 5.3L, Stage 2.5 heads (race prepped, early version), milled .025 (58.83 cc)
2.04 int/1.57 ext valves
PRC Platinum Duals
ARP Head Studs
Comp XE-R 232/234, .595/.598 113+0 cam
Comp Hi Energy 7.40 p-rods
GM MLS .050 head gasket
Stock rockers
Comp 850-16 lifters
TSP ported oil pump
LS2 timing chain kit
March 25% UD pulley
TR6 plugs gapped .040
MSD plug wires
Ported BBK 80 mm TB
Modified 80mm mouth LS6 intake (5 year old custom order found at a swap meet)
LS6 PCV mod kit
Stock MAF (descreened)
FIPK V2 open filter
MAC Midlength, (primary weld mod and collector mod)
Custom Magnaflow catted y
Custom Magnaflow muffed catback
30lbs SVO injectors
Racetronix PnP pump with harness + rail pressure regulator with return line.

Well, I fired it today at 10:00
Ignited on second try and immediately took idle.
As usual lots of smoke in the bay, oil pressure is great and steady. I used 5W30 to break in, will go to 0W40 Mobil 1 in 500 miles.
Warmed to temperature normally, topped radiator, by now I'm checking for leaks, none to be found.
Idle was 900 from previous setup and it idled effortlessly and with a mild lope, kinda like a 224, 114.
I reduced the idle after the stat opened and coolant was stable and full.
I went to 700, lope came back, I think it can idle at 650 easy. But I reset the idle to 800 for the moment.
After initial happiness and relief that everything is running fine, 2 things astonished me
1- How smooth it idled compared to the 346 (same head and cam), I think the 11.7X and 8.6x DCR are contributing to cam efficient operation.
2- How quiet it is in the bay. This is the quietest I've ever had a H/C LS motor. Not a single peep so far from the valvetrain. And i mean silent, better than stock. So much for the theory that XE-R cams have to make noise and it is normal. Lifter preload is ~.080 on intake average and .07x on exhaust.

So tomorow i'm gonna take it for a spin and control myself with all my might not to floor it. I think I'll take a highway trip next weekend to finish the 500 miles break in, change oil and try to step on it a few times.

So far so good.
I won't dyno for a while since it is too hot, but I will get a G-Tech Pro reading when I go WOT to let you folks (and myself) know some power results.

Time for a well deserved Pizza and a couple of beer pints.

Initially, I would like to thank Bryan Neele at LME for all his help (even though you didn't drill and tap the alternator whole as I requested ), but quality of motor assembly was really good, and the crating was superb. Price was nice too, so my initial go to you Bryan.

Sweet writeup. You've got a really solid combination of parts. Can't wait to see your new times, even in the blazing UAE heat.

What sort of expectations do you have for bhp/lb ft and curve profile?

Well, i'm expecting 450 rwhp and 410>420 rwtq but so far with its behaviour, it has exceeded my expectations (surprize), maybe it will do the same on power.
After some road time and fine tuning, who knows.

I bet it's a great feeling to finally get the thing fired up! Congrats!

So basically you're old block, pistons, and rods were f'd so you put the old crank, heads, cam and accesories into a new LS2 size (364) iron block with new pistons and rods?

Congrats, should be a killer motor. Look forward to following your results. My 11:1 bigger cam combo idles and runs quieter than my 10.5:1 TR224 HC combo FWIW.

Could we get the specs on your new motor? Only kidding. Glad to see that you got YOUR OWN car running again. Seems like all the help you give out on here you should get a break. Glad to hear all is going well.

Oh, and long live the MAC midlength headers!

Congrats, I know how nice it is to get the new motor running. And don't be a baby, break her in right, not really hard, but enough to sense the new found power I dynoed my 402 at 350 miles, I couldn't hold out any longer, all you need is a good 7-10 heat cycles and the rings should be fully set. Change the oil and see what it can do

Can't wait to see what it makes, congrats again!!!

Yeah, your cam should idle slightly smoother with the little bit of extra displacement, but I'm glad it surprised you, that is always good news to have no problems right off the bat! Hope it runs as good as you had planned!!!

Thanks to all the props guys.

Yeah, it is a good feeling when things come together as planned. One always worry and the question that keeps pounding inside your head " Did I forget anything?"

I took almost 2 days just to check and recheck everything.

Xtnct, my #7 and #5 were toast on the old block, the heads were scratched in the quench area at those pistons but valves and chambers were untouched. Chunks of piston did the damageA .025 mill cleaned it up nice.

Of course I could have gone bigger, but $$ dictated the route to take.
I was left with heads and a cam so I worked the shortblok to optimize those.
The block is all fresh, LME put all new parts in (not sure about the crank, but all the rest is new on the shortlock)
I still have to get another built 4L60E, my 2 year old FLP can't take the juice anymore (2>3 shift slipping under N2O).

I wish I could get a Rossler with transbrake, but it looks like Rock On will get my Biz within the next month. Not that I wouldn't go with FLP, but sending the tranny to them and back is too costly. Rock On is offering a deal I can't refuse for their top level tranny.

Also, I might get another stall, not sure yet, but I'm thinking either VIG 3800 or Yank SS4000. I'm contemplating racing NA, not sure yet. Street division here is a 10.99 or higher, and Super Street is 9.99 (that would require juice).

Of course the wealth of help, data and support I get here on LS1tech from all you guys had a lot to do with setting up this one right so far.

good to hear it's back and running.. shoudl be alto stronger then before.. cubic inches do amazing things!

As for your tranny situation... you race the car alot yes, and dont' use it as a daily do you? If that's the case, why not put a th400 in it and be done? Manual valve body, transbrake, all the goodies, and you can pick one up for probably alot less then the 4l60 will run you, and you'll never have to mess aorund with that again... just a thought.

Yeah, I thought about that, but it ain't that cheap.
The best price for quality I gathered it will cost me in the neighbourhood of $2800
Rock on Level 5 is $2175 IIRC (if I keep my Vig 3200) but with another stall it is over that.
Also, I do not think my 10 bolt will hold up to a 4K stalled transbrake.

But first I'll drive around a bit and take a decision later.
