Default Buy heads or cam next?

I am looking to go a bit faster. But, I don;t konw if i should order heads or a came. Iv'e got a 2000 WS-6. I've got

Volant intake
qtp headers and ory
cosa cat back
shift kit
and 4.10's on an A4

I currently ran a best of 12.7X with a 1.8X 0-60ft

Should I go for a cam or headers, which will have bigger gain??

If I were you, I would figure out what cam I want. Then, I would get a torque converter matched to that cam's powerband. Most are going to be 3500-4000 range. Once you have the stall, get the cam. After the cam, get the heads.

I believe you will probably see a larger drop in your ET with a 4000 stall converter by itself over a cam alone. If you aren't looking for a sick track car, a Fuddle converter is a good converter for the price. If you want the best there is, I would look towards a Yank.

However, if you are absolutely against getting a stall first (I think it should be the 1st mod in any auto car, but whatever ), I would get a cam. A cam alone will yield more power over a set of heads alone. However, if you get too large, you may hurt your ET times without running a stall converter. If you stay in the mid to 22x range to low 23x range you could use stall speed in the 3000-3500 range. If you make it up into the mid and upper 23x's I would look into a 3800-4000 stall. Anything in the 24x I would go straight to a 4400 stall.

BTW, I sent you a PM about your 4.10s

I think SVT THIS got it right on the money, do a stall converter and then a cam and then heads. Do alot of research into what cam you want also, took me a few monthes to finally decide what cam i wanted. Good luck!

Definitely agree with SVT THIS. Stall-->Cam-->Heads. The hardest part will be choosing the cam, the rest will all follow in time. I read threads until my eyes bled reading about cams and researching the different things to look for when selecting the "perfect" cam... it's certainly something to sleep on.

forgot a part on my thread....
I do have a stall, it is a customer built 3000 stall converter that I bought from a guy on this site. I am now kicking myself in the head for going that small, especially with having 4.10 gears. The stall made such a small difference I always for get it. I do plan to go a bit bigger in the future. My thought was cam first, and the have this local guy do my stock heads. Maybe you guys have heard of Goodwin Performance. He did my last set of LT1 Heads. He's got a Viper (recently crashed it :0( ) that was in the 8's i beleive. It was 1200 for the heads, and man did they turn out nice.

For $1200 bucks you can get a set of TSP CNC'd LS6 heads with a competition valve job. You can get a spring upgrade for another $200 or so, sell your stock heads and that cancels out. If you wanted to spend a bit more you could look into a set of Dart 205s and make some pretty nasty numbers as well. If you are looking for a good cam that will work well on the street, fit under 205s, and be a killer street combo I would look into a 228 on an xer lobe (or go custom on an LSk lobe, I'd like to see that!).
