over heating prob????
over heating prob???? Well it all started of good ran with stock tstat at about 195 sitting at idle and would top out at 220. keep in mind this is a stock short block with 6.0 heads, ground zero t-70 turbo kit and pusher fans in the front so changed the tstat to a 160 and it ran about 180 at idle then it would sky rocket to 230 when driven more than a mile ????? tried re installing the stock t stat and now dose the same and getting worse will over heat just idleing ?? any help would be great thanks
Put the 160 stat back in. As long as you have control over when your fans turn on or the fans are programmed to come on @ 160-170 the 160 stat will allow the engine to run cooler.
You most likely have air in the sysytem. This will allow the heads & top of pistons 1 & 3 get hot & heat everything else up. It can also melt the top of the pistons (cylinders). With the cooling system cool, remove the radiator cap. Start the car w/ heater on high. Add water or coolant & re-install radiator cap. Drive for 10 minutes or so & let the car cool down. Remove cap & continue the process until when the cap is opened, coolant is full to top of radiator. Also, make sure overflow tank has a little fluid.
Best thing to do is connect the head vents @ the rear of the heads. Easiest method is to remove the plugs, install 1/8" NPT hose connectors & run a hose from the driver's side head to the passenger side head. Could also buy a bridge similar to what is used to connect the front of the heads.
