Default what does anyone know about GTP heads.

A freind of mine had some work done on his Camaro by a shop that will remain nameless for the time being. But after finding several problems with his car after they worked on it I am checking things out a little more. MY friend told me that this shop put GTP stage 2 5.3 heads on his car last fall. but looking at his car his heads have a 241 casting number on them. Is this right?!?! a 241 casting is a regual ls1 head. All I can gather from GTP's website is that they port heads and they want cores. If anyone can help me out on this that would be great. Thanks in advance.

A guy I know used to run GTP Stage II's w a 226 cam with boltons. 11.6's @ 120mph. They do good work and perform from what i've seen. A 241 casting is not a 5.3L head. The #241 is a standard LS1 head. Sounds like he has a Stage II #241 head and not the 5.3.

I had Craig @ GTP refresh an older set of heads that I thought were down on power and picked up over 20rwhp after he freshened up the bowls. Not sure if they are still in business or not but Craig did great work.

GTP heads are excellent heads. Look at the power numbers they produce! There's an old thread where a guy picked up 66rwhp from GTPs with a 224-sized cam.

They are supposed to be a very consistent head as well. Consistent in terms of end-use performance data.

A set of GTPs is near or atleast approaching the price of a set of AFR heads, so it seems like many people just go over to aftermarket castings.

I agree with everything that Ryan had to say as well.

Yeah that is what I was thinking that these might be stage 2 ls1 241 casting heads not 5.3 heads but if that is the case then my buddy is getting screwed over by this shop that did the work. they screwed up a few other things while workin on his car he had a head gasket let go 3 months after they installed the heads and when they fixed that he had them install a new cam and when he got it back I ended up replacing the front crank seal and the waterpump gaskets cause they must have reused the old ones. it was leaving huge puddles of oil and leaking coolant. And to top it off he had one of his dual valve springs break less than 1000 miles after the cam install. needless to say the car is never going back to that shop.
