Like orange said, its not the max lift. Its the duration and ramp rates, and the valve events. The valve is closest to the piston about 10* away from TDC (on either side), when the intake is just opening or the exhaust is just closing. The faster ramp rates will have you closer to hitting. More overlap and a smaller LSA also means that the valve events will be closer togather, which will have the valves open further for a given crank angle.

**** it, I should just lose the .4 points of compression, get a stock gasket and while I'm at it get some LS6's on there. That way I'm safe and making up for the lost power and then some. Sound resonable?

No, cause the thinner gasket will tighten up yoru quench... If you have to flycut, just do it. Its easy.

What garantees you that your cam will have enough clearance even with stock gaskets?

As I mentionned before a 234/242 112 barely fits cam only (~.070 intake clearance)

FOR THE STREET GOOD CLEARANCE = .080 INT/.100 EXHT

Some go tighter but anything less than .070/.090 is suicide IMO

Guits is right, just flycut, that cam will be killer if done properly (quench, SCR/DCR)

Forgive me for my relative ignorance, but how do I flycut? I never looked into it before. If I pull the heads, I'm taking advantage of Patriot's deal and snag the LS6's for cheap. With the gaskets, I'll be near 11.1 SCR

LG rents the tool. I cant find the FFHP ISKY flycutting instructional anymore. Guess they took it down.

I think I'll end up doing that. My Cometics should be reusable, right? I never even fired the motor up.
