428?
I have been thinking about what direction to head in with the engine. I would like to have a "traditional" Pontiac displacement. I was thinking about stroking the LS1 block rather than putting money into buying a block and then stroking it. So does anyone know of a 428 stroker for the LS1? The car is currently a daily driver but will not be forever. I would think that upper 400's to lower 500's are easily possible. I want ls7 power with out the $15000 price tag. I think this is a reasonable goal with this kind of displacement. Someone correct me if I am wrong. The car is currently a auto but I haven't decided on whether it will stay that way. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance guys.
4.125" bore with a 4" stroke is a 428 technically. But I'm calling mine a 427, and so does GM. It's actually 427.65, so round up to 428. This can be done with an LS7 block with an LS1 stroker crank. Or you can use a sleeved LS1/6/2 block like one from Katech, then fill it with LS1/2 internals.
A 402 LSx series or 408 LQ9 series with the right heads/cam combo will make 500+ rwhp. However, an LS1 with AFR 205s, 24x duration cam, 90/90 intake and proper compression could get very, very close to that 500 mark you want. I understand wanting a "traditional" sized motor, but who care's when you're hitting 10s?
