Default Castrol Syntec Oil 10w30

Went to buy oil today from Walmart and the selection was awful for some reason. No Mobil 1 no Amsoil or any other kind i would use. Im lazy so i just decided to go with the most expensive synthetic oil they had which happened to be Castrol Syntec(10w30). Just got done changing it and im pretty surprised because its running great. I previously was using Mobil 1 i had only 2500 miles on that batch of oil and my pressure was low around 30 and would drop to 5-10 when i punched it in first or second gear. With the Castrol Syntec its back at a stable 60 and doesn't budge when I punch it now. Im pretty happy with the results we'll see if it stays that way for the next 3000 miles

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but unless you bought the Castrol Syntec "European Formula 0w30", all you actually got was a highly refined crude oil, not synthetic. The US government in all of their infinite wisdom has allowed Castrol to call their oil synthetic because it is so highly refined and meets "the letter of the code" to be called synthetic. The only true synthetic that Castrol makes is imported from Germany and is an exceptional synthetic motor oil. Do a search for "German Castrol" or "GC" and check it out, or go to http://bobistheoilguy.com/ and do a little research.

The new 10w30 is porsche approved just like the GC 0w30. And GC 0w30 is now made for us in the US using the european formula. Says it on the bottle.

I live in St. louis and every AZ I've been to has at least a dozen quarts or so in stock at all times. As far as the 10w30 being synthetic, well....this is the first I've heard of it. I'll have to check it out. I think that Castrol is labeling a lot of their oils as European Formula, but they're still not a true synthetic motor oil. It needs to say "Made in Germany" on the back of the bottle and I believe the only one that states that is the 0w30.

I switched from Mobil 1 5w30 to Royal Purple 10w40 and now finally to
Royal Purple Racing41 (10w40 w/ a higher boiling point).

Seriously dude,.... just get your hands on a jegs or summit catalouge from now on and order your oil through those,..... its alot cheaper and you you'll get what you'll actually need.

Youre oil pressure should go up when you rev, not stay the same. If it drops, youve got possible serious problems.

I am quite surprised you guys make out oil to make such a big difference in these motors. Hilarious even.

I'm just up the road from you. I live in South County off of Telegraph Rd. I have yet to find a AZ that doesn't have the GC 0w30. The AZ off of Telegraph Rd. stocks it, Lemay has it, Arnold, Fenton, Baptist Church Rd, the one at Gravois and Mackenzie Rd, and there are even a couple of AZ's on Manchester that have it.

Are you a F.A.S.T. member?? I'm Gearhead on that board.

Do filters make a difference in Oil Pressure? I am wondering if thats the difference with some people. I just changed to GC 0-30 this weekend (local autozone has it) but I also changed to the K&N Filters and my oil pressure is much better.

oil is a huge difference in these motors.
with the tolerances in rings and lifters, some oils lose oil pressure and burn more oil(sucked threw pcv or catch can) than other oils.

well my motor is a 408 ls1 and alot different then stock so maybe it just doesnt like Mobil 1 oil too much because afterthe switch it has been working great. Good question above though...does the oil filter affect the oil pressure. I'm using a Nappa filter that was recommended to me by a friend seems to do the job.
