Are all LS1 heads interchangeable with each other? Will 98 LS1 heads fit an 04 Vette? What is the significance of casting numbers? Make fun of me for the newb question, (I tried searching) thanks for the responses.

 

Yes LS1 heads mechanically are interchangable on LS1 blocks. Depending on the head/block combination, there are certain things to be aware of however.

In your specific case the 98 head (probably an 853) will require the older composite head gasket (as opposed to the newer MLS ones) in order to seal corrrectly. You'll also need the valve covers from the 98 heads as they are perimeter vs. center bolt.
