Default What heads for low-end?

Have a 236/236 cam and was wondering what would be the best set of heads for low-end torque and power? I heard ls6 heads would not be for me b/c they are for higher rpm power gains.

There are no heads designed for low end. Head performance comes from how well they flow, and head performance doesn't fluctuate with RPM's. The flow numbers are relative to what size lift that your cam has...

Heads with longer runners are gonna make more power down low. Combine that with flow numbers based on your cam's peak lift and proper cc size to get you in the the 8.3-8.5:1 DCR range and you'll be good to go.

That couldn't be further from the truth. A 205cc head will be designed for low to mid range power w/ good driveability were as a 265cc head is designed for high rpm's and less than ideal in the low to mid area. Head flow is a performance factor, but one of the smaller ones. Thinks like port velocity, swirl, and turbulence are some of your bigger factors. It's been said a million times, buying a head for it's flow numbers is the wrong choice. At a minimum, look at the runner volumes and compare flow. If I have 2 heads, one 205cc's and one 255cc's, that both flow the same, which do you think will make more power and be more driveable? Obviouslly the 205's. A smaller runner with the same flow will make more power. The air in a givin area is moving much faster and giving you better efficency.

To the thread starter, look into the AFR 205's. There one of the best low-to mid heads out there.

Would 5.3 heads be good for low-end and midrange?

Any low CC head will give you good low end, Dart 205, AFR 205, Edelbrock 202 or is it 200. Velocity tends to be better on these heads which helps your low end.
