Default Build Question

I have an 99 LS1 That needs to be rebuilt. It has a vortec 9PSI supercharger w/ aftercooler. 50K miles. I'm looking for around 500RWHP and good streetability.
What will be the best and cheepest way to rebuild this?

Well, probably forged pistons and rod bolts will be your major expense. What part needs "rebuilding"?

I have melted #7 piston. It still runs but blows a lot of smoke.

With the supercharger I have to stay under 10.5:1 yes?
Does it mater what cam I put?
I want streetability and smooth throtle responce.
So if I go with forged pistons and a mild cam, will that work with the supercharger?
What cam do you recommend?

I would recommend calling Comp, Thunder, TSP, or SDPC and get a good custom grind for that combo. Not just any old cam will work with a supercharger very well. Granted it will run and still probably a pretty nimble machine. Custom grinds are the way to go. I would talk to the experts and get their advice. Some people would say to go with the LS6 cam or Z06 cam because they work well with a boosted application such as you are doing.

You should be able to street that thing with no problems, but you are gonna want a really good tune to have it be well-mannered. You can lower your compression ratio and up the boost with the right kind of piston too. this is a pretty good way to get some serious power. Like a -12 or -15cc relief would lower your stock ratio down into the 9's possibly. Also matters on what type of gasket you chose to run too.

Basically you have a lot of potential to make that thing a regular DD/Street Machine.
You might want to consider rods too and call it a forged shortblock.

Just my $0.02 on what I would do if I were you. Hell you already have the supercharger. that is the expensive part of making power right there.

you should drop your compression this time so you can run higher boost #s, 500rwhp would be easy to do with a blower and forged pistons

pick a combo that will put you about 8:1 (i belive is the best number) you might want to look into a diffrent head at the same time, like a ported LQ4, they have a bigger combustion chamber in the head (drops compression)

as for cam, get a forced induction oriented cam, my suggestion would be to post this stuff in the forced induction section of the forum

Thanks for the advice. I still have to think about this some more.

I don't understand why everyone is telling me I should drop the compression?
The stock compression is only 10.5:1.
As for the ported heads, I thought that if I run ported heads with FI it would cause problems with lag in the mid range? sure you gain at the high end but this is a street car.
