Default Oil Pressure Little Low!!!!

I have a 98z w/ 89,xxx miles. And i use mobil 1 10w30 and i have been seeing 45 to 50 at cold idle and 30 to 35 at hot idle around 800. Do you think i have a problem even though the car runs fine?

From what I've read that's low.

I'm seeing the same thing, but my car has almost 100xxx miles on it with the stock pump.

Did you at least upgrade the oil pump when you had the heads and cam put on?

If not, I'd suggest looking into a ported ls6 pump.

Try Running a DIfferent Type Oil.. Amsiol..... Germ Castrol... or Royal Purple... M1 Tends to Run Thin on Some Cars

That's plenty of oil pressure. Try a different oil. On a stock '98 LS1 oil pump (45K miles) I ran 45 psi cold idle and 35 psi hot idle with Dino oil. With LS6 oil pump (currently 54K miles), I run 50-55 psi cold idle and 38-42 psi hot idle with Castol Syntec 10W30. I'm going to try Amsoil 5W40. $25.00 per gallon locally, ouch! I wish I could find Amsoil cheaper somewhere.

I have an 01', stock short block, and see about 45# at hot idle and up to 65# higher in the rpm range using 0w-40 Castrol synthetic.

Resistance to flow creates pressure, i.e. thicker oil many times = higher pressure. Main bearing clearances are a large contributor to oil pressure. More wear on the motor, lower oil pressure. Looks like you have a 98', the earlier years of the LS series have a bad reputation for catastrophic oil pump failures, so you might want to have a replacement pump handy.

02 Z06= 27-30psi when hot. Been that way since it had 5k on it (when I bought it), no problems.

I have a 98 Z-28 with 99K. I have a ported LS-6 pump. I'm at 40-45 PSI cold and 20-25 PSI hot (M1 5w30). It's not a problem. Chevy recommends 6 psi per 1000 rpm as a minimum. Most people are comfortable with 10/1000rpm.
