When you say heads are "worked" are they milled at all?

The rule of thumb is that anything under .600 lift will work. 598/610 might knotch the pistons for you

It's the duration that causes piston to valve issues, not lift.

It also has to do with lobe profile and opening and closeing events.

If the heads have not been milled, you should be fine.

as far as the chain, id go ahead and get at least a ls2 chain. fairly cheap and much beefier than the ls1 chain

I like how you guys are using the term "fits". Sounds like you are asking if the cam will fit into the cam bore, lol.

I thought it was the other way around. My last car had a good sized cam 232/234 598 on a 112lsa and it ran fine (still does). A freind had almost the same cam but with .610 lift and it caused the piston to smack the heads. Both motors were stock head/cube LS1's. I could be wrong about the lift issue but thats what this board is all about
