Buying a Camaro or T/A
Hey guys, my names John.. I've been thinking about buying an LS1 for a long time, both of my previous cars, a WRX, and my car now, an RSX Type-S have been four cylinders.. I've had good experiences with both these cars but I really want an LS1 now... I've always just been in love with Camaros and Trans-ams since I saw the cars, they're great, every time I see a Camaro it just makes me want one even more, like it's taunting me, my RSX has a Race header and cold-air, don't get me wrong, it's not slow, I raced my friends 01 Z28 and he only put a good car on me from a 45-100 roll, but it was stock... The reason I want one is just cause of the power potential. They're beautiful, roomy, sexy sounding cars with gobs of power just waiting to be unleashed... With all that said, I'd like to know what to expect, I'm moving from a car with about 205 WHP and about 160-170 WTQ.. What are your experiences with your LS1's, would you have it any other way? I'm not a die hard Honda fan by ANY means, so convince me to get a Chevy guys.
You shouldnt need to be convinced. I have spent under 5K and should have around 450 RWHP at the wheels. All bolt ons, heads, cam, springs, shocks, Lower Control Arms, Relo Brackets, Adj Panhard, Tires, Shifter, Rear End Cover, 4.10 gears. Drive one and you will be sold. I would never have gone another way. As a matter of fact, we are looking at picking up another SS for my wife. ALSO, my buddy has had, 3 vettes, 2 SS's, 2WS6, 1Z28, 3000gt VR4, Eclipse and his newly perchased C6 vette. Hes selling the C6 already to pick up an 01-02 Fbod. They are addicting, no doubt about it. Good luck.
Hell yeah man, that sounds great, that's one of the responses I was looking for, see my friend tells me not to get one, yet he's owned 4 Camaro's, they where all older ones with Tuneport motors, but he still loved them, I think cause he's stuck driving a Celica he doesn't want me to leap ahead of him in the power department lol. Any other impressions from the LS1 guys out there?
the LSX is arguably one of the best motors today as far as power potential goes. A simple heads/cam/intake swap can pull anywhere from 400-500rwhp (depending on what you can put up with) and a full on bored/stroked LS2 or LS7 with the proper setup can pull 650rwhp. Heck it takes a Mustang modular motor heads and cam just to equal the power of a stock LS1, much less an LS2. If you pick up an SS or (my favorite) WS6 model, you have what many consider one of the most aggressive looking cars in the world. The availability of quality parts for these is outstanding, especially when comparing to import/small displacement 4cyl motors where the prevailing mentality is get something chromed, no matter what it does for performance (you can easily tell the true import tuners/gearheads from the majority ruled fast and furious crowd). Just take a look through this forum for a while, you will see MANY vendors in here talking about products, advancements, tests they run, and generally doing what they can to make their product better than everyone elses.
I've owned 1 SBC car, 1 Import (Nissan), 1 5.0 Mustang, 1 4.6 Mustang, 2 LT1 Trans Am's, and my current LS1 Trans Am. Of all of them, this is by far my favorite, and it puts a smile on my face every time I hear that motor scream
